Fox is hoping to generate some ratings heat with a summer of Love and money — and possibly two guys named Gary and Mike.
Net announced Thursday a summer schedule that mixes original episodes of several returning series with a pair of concert specials and yet another gameshow offering contestants the chance to become a millionaire. Lineup also includes six segs of the animated laffer “Gary and Mike,” which earlier this week appeared headed for UPN (Daily Variety, April 24).
Toon skein about two road-tripping buddies, from Big Ticket Television, is set to bow May 30 at 9:30 p.m. as part of a new Tuesday two-hour comedy block that includes repeats of “That ’70s Show” (8 p.m.) and original segs of “Family Guy” (8:30 p.m.) and “The PJs” (9 p.m.)
Big Ticket has had conversations with UPN about picking up “Gary and Mike,” but industry insiders said Fox and UPN have not talked about Fox giving up its right to air the show–making the Big Ticket/UPN talks meaningless.
While it’s possible Fox and UPN could come to an agreement to move the show to the weblet, for now it seems “Gary and Mike” will stay put at Fox.
Reps for Fox, UPN and Big Ticket all declined comment.
As for the rest of Fox’s summer sked:
n Net will launch “Million Dollar Chance of a Lifetime,” a trivia-based quizzer based on an Oz format, with a five-night run June 5-9 at 8 p.m. Show will then air Wednesdays at 8 p.m. starting June 14, opposite CBS reality skein “Survivor.”
n Also on June 14, Fox will return the Jennifer Love Hewitt starrer “Time of Your Life” to its sked, with original segs set for 9 p.m.
n Fox plans to air movies on Thursday nights, mixing original and repeat theatricals.
n A previously announced reality skein set in a suburban Chicago high school will also be part of Fox’s summer sked, with the show most likely bowing in July or August.
n Fox will air concert specs featuring Carlos Santana (May 31) and teen diva Britney Spears (June 7).
