Two-time Oscar winner Sally Field is checking into “ER” for a six-episode guest stint.
Thesp, who will play the estranged mother of series regular Maura Tierney, will appear in three segs of the Warner Bros. Television-produced “ER” during the November sweeps and another three segs toward the end of the season.
Field’s character will have “unresolved conflicts with her daughter,” said Jack Orman, exec producer of “ER” with John Wells. “She’s so dynamic,” Orman said of Field. “She can be sympathetic and strong and vulnerable and very, very complex. We know she can pull this off.”
Field, who scored Oscars for her roles in “Norma Rae” and “Places in the Heart,” is no stranger to TV. In addition to her starring roles in old-school laffers “Gidget” and “The Flying Nun,” Field recently snagged an Emmy nom for the Showtime pic “A Cooler Climate.”
Destination Films is set to release Field’s directorial debut, the Minnie Driver starrer “Beautiful,” on Sept. 22. Thesp also appears in the Farrelly brothers’ upcoming pic “Say It Isn’t So.”
Deal was brokered by CAA.
