A new list of the U.K. TV industry’s 100 favorite British TV programs of the 20th century puts revered BBC sitcom “Fawlty Towers” at No. 1, while “Frasier” heads a separate list of the top 10 imports.
The British Film Institute’s TV 100 is the result of a survey conducted among 1,600 members of the industry, who were asked to vote on the best in TV drama, comedy, variety and light entertainment, factual and children’s programming.
The BBC dominates the list with 72 programs, including eight in the top 10. The ITV companies account for 22 programs, while Channel 4 has six.
Other U.S. shows that made it onto the list of favorite overseas program are “The Simpsons,” “Hill Street Blues,” “The Phil Silvers Show,” “Seinfeld,” “Friends” and “The Sopranos.”
