Disney revamps daytime/syndie banner

New unit replaces merged entity Buena Vista Development

Disney has reorganized its ABC daytime and firstrun syndie/cable programming efforts under the new banner Buena Vista Prods.

Redo follows an announcement in February that saw ABC Daytime development and the development functions of Buena Vista Television (BVTV) — Disney’s pay TV, pay per view, cable and broadcast syndie operation — merged under the name Buena Vista Development (Daily Variety, Feb. 25).

The new banner effectively replaces the merged entity Buena Vista Development, and amounts to a new Disney unit that will also handle creative oversight for current shows, such as “Live! With Regis.”

BVTV is now exclusively a distribution entity.

Angela Shapiro, prexy of ABC daytime, serves as prexy of the new Buena Vista Prods. unit. In terms of non-ABC daytime functions, Shapiro will report to Laurie Younger, who earlier this week was named exec VP of TV distrib for ABC Inc. and exec VP-chief financial officer of ABC Inc. (Daily Variety, Sept. 6). As far as ABC daytime matters go, Shapiro reports to Alex Wallau, prexy of the ABC television network.

Holly Jacobs, formerly VP of reality programming for ABC daytime, is being upped to senior VP of programming/development for Buena Vista Prods.

Mary Kellogg, who as BVTV’s senior VP of current programming has been reporting to BVTV prexy Janice Marinelli, will now report to Shapiro in the same role at BVP.
