Six states in 3 months the aim for India
NEW DELHI — Disney is going regional in India.
Buena Vista TV India chief executive officer Pratik Basu said Disney wants its presence in regional language channels across six states in the next three months, targeting Marathi, Tamil, Bengali, Punjabi, Malayalam and Kannada languages.
Other regional language channels like Tara and Prabhat are also under consideration.
The Disney channel is likely to be launched within six to eight months in the country. At present, Disney shows are already available in Hindi, Telugu and English.
All the major operators in India are vying for distribution rights of the Disney Channel. Disney sells 1,500 hours of animation programming annually to different channels in India.
