PRAGUE — Pubcaster Czech TV has dismissed its general director Dusan Chmelicek, the latest event in three years of turmoil and conflict.
Chmelicek will have served just one year when he leaves Feb. 1. He succeeded another controversial director, Jakub Puchalsky, who was forced out of the top spot — a five-year appointment — after less than two years.
Chmelicek’s dismissal came after a negative Czech TV investigation into the country’s largest lottery. The report angered the lottery company, a major advertiser with the channel.
During Chmelicek’s tenure, many of the veteran managers fired by Puchalsky were reappointed.
The pubcaster council is accepting applications for the post until Dec. 19. A new director general will be named by the end of January.
Katerina Fricova, former general manager of Prima TV, is thought to be a front-runner.
