Constantin to push USA

Deal covers German-speaking areas

BERLIN — German film distribber Constantin Film has closed an output deal with Barry Diller’s USA Films.

Running through 2003, the deal covers theatrical, video/DVD, pay/free TV and Internet rights for German-speaking territories.

Deal is the latest in a number of output pacts secured by Constantin with partners including Escape Artists, Hyde Park Entertainment and SpyGlass Entertainment. Both of these come via a first-look distribution deal with shareholder the Kirch Group.

Current USA projects include Harald Zwart’s “One Night at McCool’s,” with Liv Tyler, Matt Dillon, John Goodman and Michael Douglas, and the Coen brothers’ “The Barber Movie.”

In the first six months of the year, Constantin was the leading distrib in Germany with a 24% market share garnered on the back of local-lingo hits such as “Crazy” and U.S. pics including “American Pie.”
