HONG KONG — CNN will launch a channel aimed at South Asia beginning July 1.
The channel will feature some locally produced programming aimed at India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and other countries in the region. It will also allow CNN’s most popular shows to run there in primetime.
Chris Cramer, president of CNN Intl., called it the network’s “biggest strategic move for many years.”
“The launch of the South Asia channel is the next step in CNNI’s ongoing regionalization strategy and demonstrates our long-term commitment to the increasingly important South Asia region,” CNNI senior veep Rena Golden said.
As part of the new move, the network will upgrade its analog signal to digital.
