BBC buys India slot for ‘Teletubbies’

Program to have localized flavor, feature Indian kids

NEW DELHI — The BBC has bought a half-hour slot on Indian national broadcaster Doordarshan’s (DD) Metro channel.

Kiddie favorite “Teletubbies” will air in the 3:30-4 p.m. slot beginning Sept. 18. Program will have a localized flavor as it will feature Indian kids.

The network is reportedly planning to buy more slots on DD and will broadcast programs in both Hindi and English.

Separately, BBC World has licensed the format rights to satirical comedy “Yes, Minister” to Indian production company New Delhi Television for a local Hindi adaptation to be screened on Star TV.
