In a first-of-its-kind deal between a Web site and satellite programmer, AtomFilms has licensed seven of the 10 shorts nominated for Academy Awards to DirecTV for a two-week pay-per-view run.
AtomFilms acquires rights to short films for its Web site and for licensing to other outlets such as airlines and premium cable channels.
DirecTV will offer the nominees for best animated and live-action short films from today through March 31 in a two-hour block for $2.99.
It’s the first satellite distribution deal for the films, which are also available at AtomFilms’ Web site.
Pics under the deal are “My Grandmother Ironed the King’s Shorts,” “3 Misses,” “Humdrum,” “When the Day Breaks,” “Kleingeld,” “My Mother Dreams the Satan’s Disciples in New York” and “Major and Minor Miracles.”
