A&E has acquired the off-network rights to 97 episodes of sitcom “NewsRadio,” which it plans to add to the net’s daytime schedule beginning next fall.
The cabler declined to comment on financial details of the deal.
Distributed by Columbia TriStar Television Distribution, “NewsRadio” ran on NBC from March 1995-July 1999. The Brillstein-Grey Communications production stars the late Phil Hartman, Dave Foley, Andy Dick and Maura Tierney as employees at a news radio station in New York City.
“We felt that a smart, fast-paced, witty and work-based situation comedy like ‘NewsRadio,’ with its strong ratings track record, will be a welcome addition to our schedule,” said A&E programming and program strategy veep Barry Schulman.
A&E’s daytime sked includes “Law & Order,” “L.A. Law,” “Northern Exposure” and “Night Court.”
