'Hype,' addresses 'angst of the new millennium'
Warner Bros. held its season kickoff extravaganza Saturday on the studio’s lot. Amid the millennial ambiance, complete with casino tables and fortune tellers, stars and producers behind frosh series “Hype,” “Gilmore Girls,” “Freedom” and now vets “The West Wing” and “Jack & Jill” turned out to celebrate.
Warner Bros. TV prexy Peter Roth said, “We attempt to be as of the moment as humanly possible with our shows.”
“Our show addresses the angst of the new millennium,” explained “Hype” co-exec producers Terry Sweeney and Lanier Laney. “We are constantly bombarded with hype in the media and our show is a reaction to it. For example, being beautiful is not enough anymore, you have to be one of the 50 most beautiful,” Sweeney said.
“Being sexy is no longer enough, now you must be the sexiest,” Laney added.
