NEW YORK — “My John Shaft is not a legend. He’s a bit more all over New York City and he’s a bit more violent and pretty tough,” said Samuel L. Jackson — who plays the superfly detective with a bad-ass attitude — at the premiere of Paramount’s “Shaft” at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York on Monday night.
Rain didn’t dampen the spirits at the Centro-Fly after-party where everyone dug the funk and groove. Among them were helmer John Singleton; co-stars Richard Roundtree (the original Shaft), Busta Rhymes, Vanessa Williams and Toni Collette; producer Scott Rudin; Viacom chair Sumner Redstone, Par’s Sherry Lansing; and guests Isaac Hayes, Taye Diggs, Gloria Reuben, Kelsey Grammer, Spike Lee, Heavy D, Jimmy Smits, Steve Buscemi, Wesley Snipes, Ben Stiller, Adrien Brody, Wes Anderson and David Alan Grier.
