Thomas A. Weaver, who worked as executive director of theatrical film projects at ABC, overseeing the editing of motion pictures to meet the content guidelines for network broadcast, died of a heart attack July 28 in Los Angeles. He was 50.
Born in Franklin, Pa., Weaver attended NYU Institute of Film and Television, Allegheny College, and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Fordham U with a B.A. in Media Studies. He joined ABC as a post-production editor for the department of theatrical post-production in New York in 1974. He left ABC for a brief time, joining Viacom/Showtime, but rejoined the network in 1978, where he remained for the rest of his career.
In 1990 he was promoted to associate editor and a year later was named director of post-production. As studios began editing their own films to meet network content guidelines, Weaver served as a liaison between the studios and the nets.
He is survived by two sisters, a brother, two nieces and three nephews.
