Thelma McFate Preece

Thelma McFate Preece, founder of the Script Clerks Guild in 1937, which later became the Script Supervisor Local 871 IATSE, died Aug. 29 in Malibu. She was 96.

McFate Preece, the first female business agent in Hollywood, was born in Clifton, Ariz., and later retired to Laguna Beach to display her artistic talents.

She is survived by her son, film and television director Michael Preece; his wife, Evelyn; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
