Ray Strakbein

Ray Strakbein, longtime commercial actor, died March 8 in Los Angeles following a short battle with bone cancer. He was 76.

Strakbein, known for a long-running AT&T commercial showing him standing in a field calling Canada, also worked as a runner for Joseph Heldfond & Rix and the Savage Agency.

A WWII veteran, he was a prisoner of war and received the Purple Heart.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janis, an agent for the Savage Agency; a daughter; and two sons.
