Dino Barbis

Dino Barbis, veteran recording industry exec, died of pancreatic cancer Dec. 16 in Los Angeles. He was 62.

During his 29-year career, the Northern California native worked with Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Madonna, Fleetwood Mac and Tom Petty.

Barbis began his career as a local radio promotion rep and later moved to Famous Music, Stax, Warner Bros. and ABC Records, where he rose to VP of field administration.

He then teamed up with his brother John to form a production/media publishing promotion firm and subsequently moved to Atlantis, then Backstreet Records.

In 1984, he returned to Warner, where he served as national promotion director and was named VP. At the time of his death, his was involved with a Seattle-based Internet company.

He is survived by his wife, Sue; four children; three grandchildren; and his mother, brother and sister.

A memorial service will be held in Los Angeles in January. Memorial donations may be made to the Pancreatic Action Network, 23751 Mavison St., Torrance, CA 90505.
