New team for Ticketmaster: Conn, Pleasants, Stockman

New chair, CEO, prexy tapped; board member Kavner retires

Barry Diller’s Ticketmaster Online-CitySearch issued itself a new management team Wednesday, tapping co-founder Charles Conn as chairman and upping John Pleasants to CEO and prexy, while Tom Stockham becomes prexy of

Separately, entertainment lawyer Allen Grubman, Creative Artists Agency partner and managing director Bryan Lourd and Pleasants have also joined the company’s board.

While he will still work closely with the Ticketmaster CitySearch-Online team, Conn said Pleasants’ new role will allow him to focus “on important new strategic growth areas, including continued international expansion, wireless partnerships and acquisitions.”

Pleasants was prexy of Ticketmaster Online-CitySearch, as well as prexy of ticketing and transactions, executive veep of new markets and general manager of new markets.

He previously worked for Frito-Lay and Hygiene Industries.

Evolution meister

“Evolutions in the development of companies are always dicey, but it is Charles Conn’s great work to have been able in such a short period of time to build up a great group of executives, and have that produce the promotion of John Pleasants to CEO,” said Barry Diller, chairman and CEO of USA Networks Inc.

In his new post, Stockham will oversee all aspects of Ticketmaster Online CitySearch’s ticketing business including the newly acquired museum and event tix service 2b Technology. sold 4.2 million tix in the first quarter and averages more than $2 million per day in gross transactions.

“Tom has been instrumental to the continuing growth of our company, both in the ticketing and city guide businesses and has extensive experience ramping up rapid-growth organizations,” said Pleasants, to whom Stockham reports.

Other posts

Stockham was executive veep of and also held the posts of general manager of CitySearch Utah and veep of international business development. He was also prexy and director of Sonic Innovations.

In another executive move, board member Robert Kavner, general partner of Idealab!, has retired.

“We are all grateful to Bob Kavner for his long service to the company,” Conn said. “He served as a director from nearly the inception of the company, including a period as chairman of the board.”

“We look forward to welcoming Allen, Bryan and John to the board of directors and to their contributions to our growth in the future,” Conn said. “They bring a wealth of diverse experience in relevant sectors to our expanding entertainment ticketing and information businesses.”

For the past 31 years, new board member Grubman has been the senior partner at entertainment law firm Grubman, Indursky & Schindler.
