Stan Lee Media tapped former Universal exec Jon Corfino on Monday to lead its theme park and location-based attractions division.
Corfino, 41, was most recently senior vice president and exec in charge of production at Iwerks Entertainment. Prior to that, he served as project manager of the planning and development group at Universal Studios.
“One of the elements that theme parks respond well to is that (Stan Lee Media) is a Web-based company,” Corfino said. “All theme parks are looking at ways to bring the theme park experience into the home.”
Corfino explained that he will primarily work toward creating theme park and 3-D film opportunities for the new characters that Stan Lee Media is creating online, including those Netcast in Webisodes of the company’s new series, “The 7th Portal.”
“With Stan’s background, everybody has been very eager and the response has been very positive,” Corfino said.
While Corfino worked at Iwerks, Stan Lee Media partnered with the company to develop ride simulations, 3-D attractions and giant screen productions. At U Studios, Corfino helped develop and construct attractions like “The Star Trek Adventure,” “Back to the Future: The Ride” and “ET: the Extraterrestrial.”
“We are very pleased to launch our location-based entertainment division under the guidance of Jon Corfino, whose creative and business savvy have made him one of the best in the business,” said Stan Lee Media co-founder Peter Paul.
