Odie Donald has been tapped prexy of DirecTV Enterprises, replacing Eddy Hartenstein, who was upped to global chairman earlier this year.
Donald, who most recently was an exec at Cable & Wireless, will also become veep of Hughes Electronics and a member of the company’s management committee.
He will report to Hartenstein, who besides holding the company’s top spot, also is senior executive veep of the Hughes Electronics Consumer Sector.
“DirecTV has grown to become the undisputed leader in multichannel digital video distribution, and Odie Donald has a strong track record in managing successful consumer service organizations while delivering solid financial performance,” said Hughes chairman and CEO Michael T. Smith. “Odie is a great addition to the Hughes leadership team and joins the DirecTV team as we move toward profitability.”
Donald was CEO of Cable & Wireless for the Caribbean and Atlantic Islands. Before that, he spent 25 years with BellSouth, where he held a variety of senior exec posts, including prexy of BellSouth Mobility.
Separately, DirecTV said Larry Chapman will now head its new DirecTV Global Digital Media unit as prexy to oversee the development and acquisition of content and television-based interactive services for the worldwide DirecTV businesses.
Chapman was executive veep in charge of new ventures, advanced products and programming for DirecTV. He will report to Hartenstein.
Joining the new division are senior veep, new ventures, Steven J. Cox, who has been upped to executive veep, and Bradley J. Beale, senior veep, advanced products and new media, now tapped senior veep of the Global Digital Media division.
