Cinesite taps Markowski

Exec to become animation director

Steve Markowski has joined f/x facility Cinesite Inc. as animation director with his first project being Warner Bros.’ “Red Planet.”

Markowski’s hire is expected to help expand Cinesite’s character animation department. He will report to Ruth Scovill, prexy and chief operating officer of Cinesite Hollywood.

Markowski most recently was supervising animator, character designer and storyboard artist handling the title character in Warner Bros.’ animated pic “The Iron Giant.”

He was also an animator for Warner’s “Cats Don’t Dance,” Disney’s “Oliver & Co.” and Kroyer Films’ “Ferngully: The Last Rainforest.”

He began his career as an animator at Walt Disney Studios and later at 20th Century Fox and served as a storyboard artist for “The Simpsons” and “The Critic.”
