An integral part of the current soul movement, Rahsaan Patterson displayed above-average showmanship as he went through tunes from his new MCA album “Love in Stereo” and his critically acclaimed self-titled first album.

A singer whose vocal patterns and musical arrangements have the influence of Stevie Wonder written all over them, Patterson showcased a playful style, with a dash of hip-hop energy and mannerisms that he displayed on “Do You Feel the Way I Do” and the dance flavored “It Ain’t Love.”

Patterson, 27, needs to iron out a few kinks in his stage show. He rushed the pace at times and his interaction with his audience was far too infrequent. It’s the ballads, such as “Can You Wait a Minute,” that really stir up his crowd, particularly the women.

A mediocre reading of current hit “Treat You Like a Queen” suggested that he isn’t entirely comfortable with all of his newer material. “Stop By” and “Where You Are,” two tunes from his first album, were among the best performed and most enthusiastically received.
