Ribeiro gets ‘Big’ for Buena Vista

Host to replace Kid on musical series

Thesp Alfonso Ribeiro will replace Christopher Reid, aka Kid, as host of Buena Vista Television’s musical variety series “Your Big Break.”

Ribeiro will join the syndie weekly starting with the preem of its second season, which kicks off the weekend of Sept. 23-24.

This season, the show will expand from five to six perfs per week. The studio audience votes for its favorite entertainer, and he or she then competes for the show’s grand prize of $25,000.

Ribeiro is best known for his role as Carlton Banks on the former Will Smith series “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” He got his start in showbiz in a Pepsi commercial with Michael Jackson in the early ’80s, which led to a role on “Silver Spoons.”

Skein, produced by Dick Clark Prods., is based on a long-running European format that gives contestants a chance to portray their favorite singers onstage.

Dick Clark will continue to exec produce the show along with Endemol’s Marc Jansen. Larry Klein is producer.
