Music biz trade group the Recording Industry Assn. of America has opened up shop in Burbank, establishing its West Coast Affairs Office to accommodate major L.A.-area members such as Universal Music Group.
RIAA senior veepee Joel Flatow was tapped in April to run the office.
Flatow has been with the RIAA for 5-1/2 years, working primarily in artist relations. His past work for the group included lobbying Congress to support several measures intended to protect artists’ intellectual property rights, including the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998.
Prior to joining the RIAA, Flatow was legislative director of the Congressional Arts Caucus, a bipartisan clearinghouse for legislative information on the arts.
