Madonna’s Maverick Records may be close to landing a well-known maverick TV programming exec to head its film and TV division.
Former ABC Entertainment prexy Jamie Tarses is in the middle of serious conversations with Maverick topper Guy Oseary about joining the company. Tarses, who ankled the Alphabet web last year following a corporate restructuring, would spearhead Maverick’s efforts to expand both its TV and film presence.
While some wags believe a deal is all but done, other sources caution that Tarses is weighing several other career options and that any decision on her part could be as much as a month away. Tarses and Oseary both declined comment.
Despite her well-publicized problems navigating the political waters inside ABC, Tarses left the web with her reputation as a natural-born development exec intact. She’s perhaps best known for helping push “Friends” and “Mad About You” through the NBC comedy pipeline. At ABC, she championed “Two Guys and a Girl,” which despite early critical hazing has turned into a solid demo performer for ABC.
If she ends up at Maverick, Tarses would join a company run by two strong personalities — Madonna and Oseary — who, like Tarses, both achieved success at a young age.

Turner, Fonda announce separation
NEW YORK — Time Warner vice chairman Ted Turner and his wife, actress Jane Fonda, announced Tuesday they are separating after eight years of marriage.
“While we continue to be committed to the long-term success of our marriage, we find ourselves at a juncture where we must each take some personal time for ourselves,” the pair said in a joint statement. “Therefore, we have mutually decided to spend some time apart. We ask that you respect this decision.”
The marriage is the third for both the Academy Award-winning thesp and media entrepreneur Turner, the founder of CNN and owner of the Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Hawks.
Of late it’s been tough going for media mogul marriages. News Corp. topper Rupert Murdoch led the charge when he and Anna Murdoch parted ways last year. Viacom chairman Sumner Redstone and his wife, Phyllis, are divorcing as well.
