NEW YORK — BMG Entertainment’s Arista Records has promoted Michael Johnson to senior vice president of R&B promotion.
Exec will manage the label’s urban promotion staff. Johnson will also oversee promo efforts on radio and video outlets, as well as on the street for Arista and its joint venture labels, including Arista prexy Antonio “L.A.” Reid’s LaFace Records and Sean “Puffy” Combs’ Bad Boy Entertainment.
Before the promotion, Johnson was Arista VP of R&B promotion, a job he got in October 1999. From 1992 to 1999, he held the same post at two major labels: first at Universal Music unit Mercury Records, then at BMG’s other major imprint, RCA Records.
Johnson cut his teeth in the music industry working in retail and wholesale distribution, later getting his first job in promotion at an independent distributor.
