UNITED KINGDOM

United Artists Films has picked up international rights outside North America to Maggie Greenwald’s “Songcatcher,” which won the Special Jury Prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.

Starring Janet McTeer and Aidan Quinn, pic is the story of a female music professor at the turn of the century who discovers a treasure trove of ballads in an Appalachian community.

GERMANY

Commercial webs ProSieben and RTL will pull the plug on their joint programming venture in Switzerland due to a lack of demand.

Since August, the two have, between 6-7:40 p.m., simultaneously broadcast over their Swiss feeds a programming block designed to attract Swiss auds and advertisers.

LATIN AMERICA

AEI Music Latin America, a joint venture between Cisneros Television Group (CTG) and AEI Music Network, has launched 20 music channels for Galaxy Latin America’s DirecTV service.

The channels will not include any advertising. Subscriber input will be encouraged via a related Web site.

SOUTH AFRICA

South African pay TV broadcaster M-Net has signed a long-term exclusive deal with Columbia TriStar Intl. Television (CTIT). Deal guarantees M-Net the first television window in 42 countries across Africa for the latest movies and telefilms from Columbia Pictures and Columbia TriStar Television.
