The Tribune Co. has wasted no time in putting its own stamp on the Times Mirror Co.
Less than a month after acquiring the newspaper group for $8 billion, the Tribune has announced a flurry of new appointments there. As expected, Mark H. Willes, the L.A. Times CEO, whose efforts to forge closer relations between editorial and publishing divisions led to a PR fiasco for the paper, has stepped down. L.A. Times publisher Kathryn M. Downing and editor Michael Parks are also out.
Tribune prexy John W. Madigan has become chairman of the Times Mirror Board. And, in a shuffling of Times Mirror execs, Orlando Sentinel publisher John P. Puerner has become the new L.A. Times publisher, and Baltimore Sun editor John Carroll has been named the new editor of the paper. Twelve Tribune executives have also joined the Times Mirror’s board.
