Celebs, industryites to sub in Teach for America program
Jeffrey Katzenberg, Sherry Lansing, Arianna Huffington, and thesps Lisa Kudrow, Noah Wyle and Elisabeth Shue will take up teaching Oct. 16-20 as part of national instructor corps Teach for America’s annual guest teacher week.
Event, Teach for America Week, invites Americans from varied professions to teach for one hour in urban and rural public schools that lie in low-income communities.
A force in public education for the past 11 years, Teach for America has placed more than 6,000 educators in under-resourced schools.
Other confirmed participants include Eli Broad, CEO of SunAmerica; Stephen Bollenbach, CEO of Hilton Hotels; architect Frank Gehry; and Andrew Haas, senior managing director for Bear Stearns.
Past program participants include Henry Kissinger, George Stephanopoulos, Oprah Winfrey, L.A. Mayor Richard Riordan, and L.A. TFA board member and producer Mark Gordon.
