Kabler to o'see legal and business, Durbin to guide 'Net-related content
NEW YORK — Stephen L. Kabler has been promoted to senior VP of business affairs and general counsel, and Paul Durbin has been upped to veepee of research and editorial at National Geographic Channel Intl.
Both will continue to report to National Geographic Channel Intl. CEO David Haslingden in the company’s D.C. office.
Moving from his position as director of biz and legal affairs, Kabler will have expanded responsibility for all legal and business issues — including structuring joint ventures for launching NGCI channels in new territories. He’ll also have a part in negotiating programming acquisitions and production deals.
Durbin, who most recently was director of research, will be charged with directing the research staff and overseeing the creation of enhanced and ‘Net-related content.
“Both Stephen and Paul have made important contributions to the success of the National Geographic Channel on the international front,” said Haslingden.
Prior to joining National Geographic in 1998, Kabler was a senior associate at Hogan & Hartson and an associate at Cole, Raywid & Braverman.
Durbin started at NGCI as manager of research in 1997. He has also worked as a researcher for the National Geographic Bee and National Geographic Television, and as an analyst in the map collection of the National Geographic Society Library.
Launched in 1997, National Geographic Channel Intl. is a partnership among National Geographic Ventures, NBC and the Fox Entertainment Group. The web reaches 53 million homes in 64 territories and is set to bow Stateside in December.
