Ex-CEO becomes publisher, prexy of newspaper
MONTREAL — Guy Crevier has unexpectedly ankled his position as president and CEO of Canadian producer Motion Intl. to become president and publisher of Montreal French-language daily newspaper La Presse.
He had held the top position at Motion, Canada’s second-largest TV producer, since July 1998, when Montreal-based communications conglomerate Telesystem took a controlling interest in Motion (then called Coscient). Prior to his stint at Motion, Crevier was senior vice president at Telesystem, responsible for development in the content sector.
Finding a replacement
Crevier will stay on at Motion until Feb. 25 and will begin work at La Presse in early March. The human resources committee of Motion’s board of directors has already started the process to find a replacement for Crevier. On an interim basis, Pierre Guilbault, senior vice president and chief financial officer of the company, will take on additional responsibilities to assure a smooth and orderly transition.
Motion is active in English and French-language film and TV production, and it is the largest supplier of local programming to the TV networks in French Canada. It is also Canada’s leading TV distributor.
“The years spent at Telesystem and at Motion Intl. have helped me develop close ties with some really great people, to broaden my knowledge of international markets, and to better understand the potential of convergence between telecommunications, information technologies and content,” said Crevier. “The offer Power Corp. has made to run La Presse is truly exceptional. It gives me the opportunity to put my expertise to work in a medium that is the principal witness to the evolution of Quebec and Canadian society.”
