Merrick memorial at St. James

'Words and Music' tribute to feature songs from producer's musicals

A memorial to David Merrick will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the St. James Theatre (246 West 44th Street), where such long-running Merrick productions as “Hello, Dolly!” and “42nd Street” performed. The theater producer died April 25 at age 88.

Merrick’s nonprofit Arts Foundation has organized the event, titled “A Celebration in Words and Music,” which will feature songs from Merrick musicals performed by Brent Barrett, Andrea McArdle, Howard McGillin, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Karen Ziemba.

Among those scheduled to speak are Clive Barnes, Mary Rodgers Guettel, Howard Kissel, Rocco Landesman, Samuel “Biff” Liff and Jerry Orbach. A tribute by the Juilliard School will be presented by soprano Melissa Brezinsky.
