Mauri jumps to TMC

World Brief

Ernesto Mauri, 53, is resigning as managing director of Fininvest’s publishing company Mondadori to become CEO of TeleMontecarlo (TMC).

Defection is the first from Silvio Berlusconi’s media empire since Telecom Italia acquired Vittorio Cecchi Gori’s beleaguered TV company in August.

TMC’s two channels have a meager 3% audience share, minimal revenues and massive debt.

But thanks to cash-rich Telecom Italia, TMC is now expected to become a thorn in the side of both Berlusconi’s Mediaset and pubcaster RAI, which together control over 90% of the national TV market.
