Desert sturm on NBC radar

Marine-sheika love story on Peacock fast track

The nonfiction tale of the U.S. Marine and the Bahraini sheika who eloped and fled to the U.S. has landed at NBC as a telepic.

Columbia/TriStar will produce the saga, which NBC has put on the fast track– hoping to get it on air this season before the headlines become stale. Mary L. Aloe of Proud Mary Entertainment, who owns the rights to the story, pitched it as ” ‘Romeo and Juliet’ set against Desert Storm.”

Pfc. Jason Johnson and Meriam Al-Khalifa met when he was on a tour of duty in Bahrain. Al-Khalifa, who used phony Marine documents to enter the country, is trying to avoid deportation by seeking political asylum. Johnson will get a humanitarian discharge from the Marines.

Aloe and Tom Colbert of Industry R&D will produce. Stephanie Germain will exec produce.
