Mandy Patinkin missed all weekend performances of “The Wild Party,” now in previews, while the thesp takes a “mandatory vocal rest” from the show, a spokesman for the Broadway musical said.
The spokesman could not confirm when the actor would be able to return, and no further announcement would be made regarding Patinkin’s condition until the actor’s next consultation with a doctor today. Thesp’s departure necessitated the cancellation of last Thursday’s performance. Beginning with Friday’s show, understudy David Marsenheimer took over the role of Burrs, the spurned boyfriend in the musical based on a poem by Joseph Moncure March. Show is written by Michael John LaChiusa and George C. Wolfe, who also directs it.
“The Wild Party,” which also stars Toni Collette and Eartha Kitt, began previews March 10 at the Virginia Theater. Tuner’s opening is scheduled for April 13.
