Shepard play tops weekly tally for Circle-in-the-Square
The first-ever Broadway engagement of Sam Shepard’s “True West” broke the record for weekly gross sales at the Circle-in-the-Square Theater, with a total of $243,063 for the week ending March 19.
The previous record-holder was a production of Eugene O’Neill’s “Hughie,” starring Al Pacino, which had a best-grossing week of $234,410 in August 1996.
The current Broadway production of “True West” stars Philip Seymour Hoffman and John C. Reilly under the direction of Matthew Warchus. Ron Kastner is producer.
The play’s best-ever weekly total was against a gross potential of $296,327. It performed at 91.50% capacity.
The show opened on March 9.
