Gray rolls dice on Vegas ‘Mars’ tuner

Relationship book's themes turned to vignettes for Flamingo bow

Not since Woody Allen turned “Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex” into a movie has showbiz offered up such an odd adaptation of a self-help book.

The musical version of John Gray’s “Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus,” the No. 2 bestseller of the 1990s, will open Sept. 28 at the Flamingo Las Vegas hotel. Previews will begin Sept. 17.

Gray created the stage work with composer Rite Abrams and director-choreographer David Bell. John Gray’s Mars-Venus and Sacramento Intl. Prods. are producing the tuner.

The musical comedy features five couples ranging in age from 20s to 60s and examines the day-to-day struggles that each relationship endures. Abrams (“Aftershocks”) and Bell (“Hot Mikado”) have adapted Gray’s book and philosophies into a series of vignettes.
