NEW YORK — The Broadway musical “Footloose” will close July 2, having played 21 previews and 737 regular performances at the Richard Rodgers Theater. “Seussical” will follow “Footloose” into the theater, with a Nov. 9 opening. First preview performance for the Dr. Seuss tuner is Oct. 15.
Produced by Dodger Endemol Theatricals, “Footloose” had its Broadway premiere Oct. 22, 1998. Walter Bobbie directed the stage adaptation by Dean Pitchford and Bobbie, based on the original 1984 screenplay by Pitchford. Tom Snow wrote the music, with lyrics by Pitchford and additional songs by Eric Carmen, Sammy Hagar, Kenny Loggins and Jim Steinman.
Last week, the show grossed $281,066 on a potential of $668,386 at the 1,348-seat Richard Rodgers and performed at 62.5% capacity.
