A few bright spots in B’way B.O.

Overall take up miniscule 1.3%

Broadway producers should look into having daylight savings time outlawed. B.O. rose a minuscule $194,591 — or 1.3% — for a final $14,470,564 despite the presence of three more shows in previews: “The Green Bird,” “Uncle Vanya” and “The Music Man.” This week last year, it was much worse, with overall box office falling 16.2%.

Of the 36 shows running, a very mighty few bucked the downward trend. “Contact” registered the biggest gain — $57,495 — after its previous week sked of heavily comped previews. The hoofer show closed at $526,748 on a gross potential of $656,080. Average ticket went for $63.55. It played 97.11% capacity.

‘Moon’ rises

Even more impressive was the extra $31,201 earned by “A Moon for the Misbegotten,” which had a final $349,619 on a gross potential of $444,168. Its average ticket price rose significantly, settling at $56.04. Of those few plays on Broadway, only “True West” had a higher average ticket price: $56.46. The Sam Shepard drama dipped $6,531, closing at $279,061.

Performing at 96.67% cap, “Aida” rose $38,712 for a final $751,893 on a gross potential of $808,554.

Other increases were recorded by “Chicago” (up $2,412), “Footloose” (up $14,778), “Saturday Night Fever” (up $1,809) and “Waiting in the Wings” (up $13,317). Most shows in previews also gained.

Downticks were more the rule, although only one show took an especially devastating blow. “James Joyce’s The Dead” registered a seismic drop, falling $46,215 to a cryptic $116,987. The tuner closes April 16.

“The Ride Down Mt. Morgan” opened April 9. Last week’s sked of heavily comped previews brought its total down $37,820 from the previous session, ending with $247,310 on a gross potential $506,971.

Biggest declines came from “Annie Get Your Gun” and “Riverdance,” which fell $53,979 and $50,715, respectively.
