Steve Zahn will star opposite Drew Barrymore in “Riding in Cars With Boys,” which Penny Marshall will direct for Columbia Pictures.
In the drama, based on Beverly D’Onofrio’s autobiographical story of her rise from teen mom to bestselling writer, Zahn will portray Barrymore’s drug-addicted husband who abandons his parental and marital responsibilities.
Morgan Ward adapted the screenplay for “Riding,” which will be produced by James L. Brooks and Laurence Mark.
Principal photography is slated to begin in New York in September. Zahn will begin production shortly after completing his role in another Col production, “Saving Silverman.”
Zahn, who will be seen in the upcoming “Chain of Fools” and “Squelch,” recently starred in Michael Almeryeda’s “Hamlet” and received an Independent Spirit Award for “Happy, Texas.” He is repped by CAA and Marsha McManus of LMRK.
