60 features, shorts to be shown at conference examining new technologies

VANCOUVER — The first Whistler Intl. Film, Television and New Media Festival will run at the British Columbia ski town March 28-31.

The festival organizers said that 60 features and shorts would unspool alongside a conference examining new technologies.

Leagh Gabriel, an events manager who formerly ran her own talent agency, and Susan Cooke Dosot, an exec with ties to biz financiers, are the co-directors of the fest.

The trade confab honcho is Carrie Hunter, co-founder of the Banff Television Festival, and programmers include Tom Lightburn, a veteran exhibitor and distributor; David Forget, a co-founder of Red Sky Entertainment; and Coreen Mayrs, who has won eight B.C.-area Leo Awards for her short films.

Gabriel has promised a biz focus for Whistler.

Hunter pledged that “X-Files” creator Chris Carter will be on hand for the event.
