Nomination ballots for this year’s Writers Guild of America screenplay awards have been mailed and are due by the close of business on Feb. 7.
WGA members will be voting on 101 eligible films in the category of best screenplay written directly for the screen and another 101 for best screenplay based on material previously produced or published.
Last year’s winners were “Shakespeare in Love” by Marc Norman and Tom Stoppard and “Out of Sight” by Scott Frank.
Eligible films were exhibited theatrically in the Los Angeles area during 1999 and produced under WGA’s contractural jurisdiction or that of an affiliated guild in Australia, Canada, French Canada, Great Britain or New Zealand.
Five nominees in each category will be announced Feb. 9 and screened for WGA members Feb. 13-16 at the Writers Guild Theater, 135 S. Doheny Drive in Beverly Hills. Winners will be announced at the 52nd annual Writers Guild Awards on March 5 in simultaneous ceremonies at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and at the Plaza Hotel in New York.
