Warner Bros. has nabbed Sam Montgomery’s spec script “In the Lake” for Jorge Saralegui’s on-lot Material Films to develop. Deal is worth seven figures.
While paying Montgomery a high-six- against high-six-figure sum, Warner Bros. has also shelled out low-six figures for the rights to “Delivrez-Nous du Mal,” the 1957 Frederick Dard novel on which Montgomery’s spec is based.
Newly hired Material veep Percy Zuletta brought the project into the company due to his existing relationship with Montgomery. The book rights were controlled by Sam’s father, Robert H. Montgomery, Jr., the Gotham-based entertainment lawyer. He will serve as co-producer on the project.
Warner Bros.’ senior veep Kevin McCormick will oversee the project for the studio.
The Dard novel centers on a wealthy husband who discovers his wife is unfaithful and plots a diabolical revenge. Dard, who recently passed away, is the author of more than 300 novels, including the “San Antonio” detective fiction series.
Montgomery co-wrote “U-571” and “Breakdown” with Jonathan Mostow. Saralegui is producing the Anne Rice adaptation of “Queen of the Damned” at Warner Bros.
Both Sam and Robert Montgomery are repped by Lynn Pleshette and Michael Cendejas of the Lynn Pleshette Literary Agency. Dan Furie negotiated the deal for Warner Bros.
