Visual Effects fest slated

'Perfect Storm,' 'Chicken Run' to be screened

The Visual Effects Society will hold its second annual festival July 14-16 at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ Leonard H. Goldenson Theater.

Skedded to present on the first day are Scott Anderson and his team from Sony Pictures Imageworks (“Hollow Man”); f/x supervisor John Nelson and Mill Films’ Robin Shenfield, Tim Burke and Laurent Hugueniot (“Gladiator”); and Stefen Fangmeier, from Industrial Light & Magic, who will present f/x for “Perfect Storm,” followed by a screening of pic.

Second day will include Peter Donen’s presentations of f/x used in “U-571”; FrameStore’s Tim Webber and Mike McGee reviewing work on miniseries; and Aardman Animations’ Dave Sproxton and Tom Barnes presenting stop motion from DreamWorks’ “Chicken Run,” followed by a screening.

On the final day, f/x supervisor Hoyt Yeatman, Disney’s the Secret Lab and ILM will discuss their work on “Mission to Mars”; Secret Lab’s Neil Krepela, Neil Eskuri and Mike Belzer will later showcase “Dinosaur.”
