USA catches a chill

Anderson helms terror tale, MTV's Daly tunes in

USA Films has begun production on the horror thriller “Session 9,” helmed by Brad Anderson (“Next Stop Wonderland”). Pic stars David Caruso, Josh Lucas, Peter Mullan and Brendan Sexton III in a contempo tale of terror set in an abandoned insane asylum.

David Collins, Dorothy Aufiero, and Michael Williams of Scout Prods. are producing from a script by Anderson and Stephen Gevedon.

MTV “Total Request Live” host Carson Daly will serve as the project’s music supervisor. Shoot is taking place in Danvers, Mass.

“I have watched Brad evolve as a filmmaker over the years, and am excited that he is making this film with USA,” said USA Films chairman Scott Greenstein. “Adding Carson’s musical tastes to the mix will make the project even more unique.”

Matt Wall, USA Films senior veep of production and development, is supervising the project with Peter Kalmbach, VP of acquisitions and co-productions.

The deal was negotiated for USA by senior VP of business affairs Howard Meyers. Negotiating for Anderson were attorney John Sloss, Mary Meagher of Independent Artists and Endeavor.

Anderson’s credits as a writer-director include “Happy Accidents,” “Next Stop Wonderland” and “The Darien Gap.” Gevedon has previously worked as an actor, with credits including a multi-episode stint on HBO’s “Oz.”

Scout patrol

Collins, Aufiero, and Williams formed Scout Prods. in 1994. Company’s production credits include Errol Morris’ “Mr. Death: The Rise and Fall of Fred A. Leuchter Jr.” and Adam Bernstein’s “Six Ways to Sunday” as well as Morris’ “First Person” series for Bravo/Independent Film Channel.

Caruso will be seen in “Proof of Life”; Lucas has a starring role in “The Weight of Water”; Mullan will be seen in “The Claim”; Sexton starred in “Boys Don’t Cry.”
