LONDON — United Intl. Pictures has made another advance in its bid to handle more local pics around the world — by striking a Nordic distribution deal with Scanbox.
UIP will handle the theatrical release of Scanbox’s slate of Scandi, European and U.S. pics in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland.
Films under the deal include Miramax’s “The Cider House Rules” and “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” along with Danish titles “Mirakel” and “Cirkeline 2.”
UIP president and chief operating officer Andrew Cripps said, “This is a wonderful deal for both parties … UIP continues to develop its European business and this initiative represents a great move forward for us.”
Scanbox CEO Jorgen Kristiansen said, “The distribution know-how of UIP will enable us to achieve the best possible theatrical platform for our top-quality slate of European and U.S. titles.”
UIP has also confirmed that Marion Pilowsky is joining as head of its new acquisitions and development department in London. She was previously head of acquisitions and development at Australia’s Premier Movie Partnership.
