ROME — Following the formation during last year’s Taormina Film Festival of the Taormina Committee, whose goal is to strengthen ties between the U.S. and Italian film industries, the group convened last week in Santa Monica during AFM for its biannual meeting.
Those present included MPA chairman and CEO Jack Valenti; Rosanna Rummo, head of the Entertainment Dept. of Italy’s Culture Ministry; and Taormina fest topper Felice Laudadio.
They discussed plans for both sides to co-sponsor a seminar at Cinecitta later this year. It will focus on screenwriting and script development, considered weak areas holding back contemporary Italian cinema.
Committee also plans to develop a weeklong U.S. showcase for recent Italian productions to take place in 2001.
