Project lacks writer, director so far

Universal Pictures is in early negotiations with Jet Li to star in “The Green Hornet” as Kato, sidekick to the title character.

The project, to be produced by Larry Gordon, Chuck Gordon and Dark Horse Entertainment, is based on the radio series and 1960s TV show about a green-masked crusader who battles crime with his karate-chopping partner, a role made famous by Bruce Lee in the TV series.

“The Green Hornet,” which currently does not have a director or writer attached, was in development during mid-’90s at Universal and at one point had George Clooney attached to play the lead before he fell out to do “The Peacemaker.”
