PARIS — The Sunny Side of the Doc, documentary film’s annual gathering in Marseilles, unspools next week with 473 companies attending, down slightly from last year’s 500.
Some 211 buyers and commissioning editors from 20 countries will be present.
Despite competition from Reed Midem’s Mipdoc, Sunny Side general manager Olivier Masson believes the four-day event is secure in its niche as a forum for top-notch product.
“Participants find high-quality projects that they won’t find anywhere else,” Masson said.
There also appears to be a thaw in relations between the market and the documentary film festival, renamed Fictions du Reel, following the split over artistic differences between the two last year.
This time round, festival organizers have accreditation for Sunny Side, and the films in competition will be available for viewing at the market videotheque.
Festival, headed by new artistic director Laurent Roth, unspools at the Theatre National de la Criee June 25-29.
