Mira Sorvino will star in “Semana Santa,” a mystery thriller set and to be shot in Seville, Spain. Lensing begins Oct. 16. German helmer Pepe Danquart is directing, with Olivier Martinez and Tcheky Karyo co-starring.
Budgeted at about $7 million, pic is being co-financed by Germany’s Senator Films, France’s UGC and Canal Plus and Italy’s RAI. Producers are Paul Berrow, Christoph Meyer-Wiel and Philip Guez.
Holy Week homicides
Penned by Roy Mitchell, “Semana Santa” tells the story of an American female police detective sent to Seville who becomes embroiled in a double-murder case against the backdrop of the city’s Holy Week celebrations.
In Cannes, Sorvino supported her producing effort “Famous,” a pic in which she appears briefly. She will next be seen starring as Daisy in A&E’s “The Great Gatsby.”
Danquart won the Academy Award for best live-action short for “Black Rider.” He recently helmed a docu on ice hockey.
Sorvino is repped by the William Morris Agency and manager Jean Fox.
